A New Way to Effortlessly Wake Up Early

Wake up early in the morning (ideally at 6 am), This is my target habit for 2024.

But 13 days have passed so far, and I was nowhere near it.

How should I wake up early, what should I do? I thought.

Ok, fix your sleep schedule first, an idea popped in mind. Maybe I should sleep before 12 o’clock to wake up at 6 AM.

Maybe I should plan it incrementally, like wake up at 9 Am for few days, then ramp it up to 8:30AM & then to 8AM and so on, may be after a month or two, I could finally wake up at 6AM. I thought.

But neither seemed effective. It seemed like too much work to implement these things. So, I did what everyone does, Ignore!

But today, I woke up at 6 AM, and this is what surprised me.

Last night, my brother-in-law called me up and said,

“Bava, Kallu tagadanki podam, rep morning 7 ki ochesei…”

which means, let’s have palm wine tomorrow morning, come by 7 AM.

I said, Yes, lets go.

While sleeping at 1 o’clock, I’ve scheduled like 5-6 alarms. 6, 6:05,6:10,6:15,6:20,6:25Am and so on. I didn’t want to miss out. 😅

I also told my dad to wake me up early at 6 AM.

& Here’s what happened.

I woke up at 6 AM, even though I barely had 4-5 hours of sleep, even though I was feeling lazy & sleepy.

As I review the day now, it’s pretty clear what has changed, & how I was able to finally wake up early.

It’s by Planning an adventure, a new experience, a feel-good activity.

This has happened to me previously as well, when we go out for bike rides. I along with my riding partners wake up at 5 AM & get ready by 6AM to start the bike ride. Felling the fresh morning breeze, witnessing the sun rise as we ride, the whole experience would be incredible.

May be this is how we can effortlessly wake up early, plan great feel-good activities.

You can also think of it like this, there are two monsters in brain.

  1. A Lazy, Sleepy Monster.
  2. A Adventure, Fun monster.

Whoever wins will decide at what time you’d wake up.

Plan a not so good activity in the morning and lazy monster shall slay you into deep slumber.

Plan a Fun adventure & the fun monster will make sure you explore the wonderful morning.

Next time you think of waking up early, plan a fun & adventure activity, & everything will take care of itself & you’d be up and exploring.
